Users choke on price of Apple's first iTunes Movie

"Talk about a rip-off," a user by the name of 'Eel' ranted in the review section for the download. "I'm sorry, but $1.99 is perfect for an iPod format. When you get to $10, you're basically paying for a DVD without getting the DVD extras or quality."

Thats a rip off, for one things the quality of it is only suitable for the iPod. The videos look bad also on any computer monitor in full screen, and they only look good on a SD TV...

YouOS - the web (based) operating system

YouOS is a snazzy new javascript-based operating system that is unlike many of the web "desktops" you currently see. Instead of just cobbling together some draggable windows, this seems to be a serious effort to create a javascript OS that contains both back end and front end functionality. The tutorials and IDE are particulary interesting!

Unfourtuatly the site is down, making it hard to see what exactly this "Shell" (not a OS) does. It isn't an OS because it doesnt boot, its more like a shell like gnome or kde.

Live Webcam of Hacked HP Printer Display

Type in any message and see it displayed live via webcam on a HP printer display. This is much more amusing than it sounds. The more this is dugg, the funnier the content will be.

World of Warcraft player banned for using logitech keyboard

A World of Warcraft player was banned from the game for using Logitech's new gaming keyboard. The keyboard allows you to program macro's that can make playing the game easier.

It seems Bizzards good record of having a good game with good customer support has stopped with this incident; by just ignoring his expaination and not staiting why he got banned, they have basically kicked him for no expcicit reason. The things that he was using were not banned in the TOS, Linux or the keyboard (which said it could be used for WoW). This will, in my option, set all the Linux users that play WoW, as well as other players that use this keyboard into some sort of fight about this issue....

Here is an excellent concise guide to master how to use apt-get to manage your linux machine and keep it up-to-date. A truly informative read.

I aggree, I have used apt-get in other distros (fedora) and the command line is very powerful, as well as using graphical programs. This is really helpful for people who use Ubuntu also, which is based of Debian. I actually started using Debian on my old Inspirion 7000 and it works great, wireless, display, sound, even wired ethernet! Ubuntu really deserves the awards that it gets.

Internet blows CIA Agents' Cover

Google, LEXIS-NEXIS, and other online search databases can be used to find information about CIA agents and operations. Pretty amazing that you can find this stuff so easily.

I would of thought the CIA would of known that by doing these types of serches that there agents would be found allready. It is hilarious in this point of view, but is a SERIOUS risk for the agents that are being found via public searches.

iSight screensaver - great for the office

A really nice screensaver which renders whatever is captured by iSight in realtime in a rotating cube (which whirls around when someone claps their hands!). Just tried this in the office and managed to get quite a gathering around my new MacBook!

Today's PC Games are much more than a danger to our youth. Beside turning society's future to sadistic madmen, kinky murderers and sex-crazed heretics, contemporary games try to bore the rest of us to death. Sad. But, that's is where philosophy can help us. The future is written in the poetry of the past, said one of the well-educated full-bearded brigade. Same thing goes with games. You can corrupt yourself and the neighborhood kids using older games, without getting bored. This time it will not be just another Dune 2 or Wolfenstein 3D clone. It will be something totally different and (usually) inspired. Problem is your average 2006 PC doesn't look like this....

Sam and Max: Freelance Police, was supposed to be even funnier, but was quite unfortunately murdered by Darth Vader. Not everything was lost though, as Obi Telltale Kenobi is currently working on the new (episodic) Sam and Max game, and as I am presenting you with a genuinely silly and quite pointless (but relevant) video...

A 10 megapixel camera phone! Insane!

You have to check this baby out. Samsung's 10 mega pixel phone, and it's only twice the thickness (if that) of the Motorola V3 razr!

INSANE!

Now THIS is a neat camera. TEN, count them, TEN megapixels. No other camera phone in the United States, nor in Europe, has this capablity (camera phones in Korea and Asia have had this capibility for awhile). I'm really exited about this, which this came directly from CeBIT. With this announcement, and others, I'm hoping other good products, including this one are released that improve the level of thechnologiy that we have, and at least bring us up to a closer level that countries like Korea and Japan have.

Microsoft going to get eaten alive over Vista's resemblance to OS X

"...With its translucent windows, such comparisons are going to be hard to avoid. But Vista's similarity with OS X goes well beyond window dressing. Certain applications, such as Calendar, Sidebar, and Photo Gallery, appear to be directly, ahem, influenced by similar applications in OS X," Thurrott writes.

It seems that Vista (Originally known, a long time ago as Longhorn) is starting to take shape, it seems to be getting more feature complete, as well slightly more stable. Vista and OSX are different in many ways, the only similarity is the style of the windows, and mabe some interface things taken from OSX. We have to remember that it was Gates who based the windows GUI from the original Mac OS in the 80's; There is no difference here, Microsoft is just taking certain concepts and using them to develop a similar idea, with Microsoft touches. Under the hood, there are many differences, with microsoft with Aero, and Apple with Quartz. In a nutshell, there isn't much to complain about: Apple "borrowed" the gui design from Xerox, and Microsoft from Apple.

It was an interesting read. And it makes me more interested in what Nintendo is developing with Revolution. With them going against the trend of good graphics, it may either help them, or harm them. The one big other unique thing that the Revolution has as a advantage is the revolutionary new controller that has the ability to change the way that we play games.

Very interesting, I can't wait until the beta refresh comes out, because I am in the Microsoft Office beta presently, with the older beta 1, and in these shots of the new interface look drastically improved. This weekend, in Atlanta's airport, I happened across an Ipod vending machine. If you have a credit card, this vending machine will spit out a video ipod, a nano, a shuffle, or any number of accessories to go along with it. There was a crowd of geeks surrounding the machine just gawking in the clever marketing of our dear friends at apple.

For weeks, gadget lovers have been dreaming of Origami--and they've been dreaming big. CNET News.com got the chance to tinker with a few prototypes of the highly anticipated series of devices expected from Intel and Microsoft today at the Intel Developer Forum. Hoping for one portable machine that could handle video, audio, photos, word processing, games and Web access, many technophiles were disappointed with what we saw. And if Microsoft is working toward a device like this, it's taking baby steps to get there. Origami More details will come to light Thursday at CeBIT in Germany. But today's prototypes feature 7-inch touch screens, x86 processors and weigh 2 pounds. But Microsoft is readjusting expectations on price, saying they'll come in under $1,000 (not the $500 goal they had previously set). And the devices have a battery life of only about three hours, not exactly the all-day-on-the-road action some were hoping for. Intel showed off a prototype of a device with a swivel-out keyboard that may ship in the future, but the first-generation version won't have that feature.

From what they are saying, Origami basically in a day has died down into nothing. 3 Hours of battery life is terrible, compared to many portable laptops. The price that they are estimating are also high, 1,000 dollars is hitting the area of low end lapotops, which may have more power than Origami has. This article makes the new technology exremly dissapointing, I'm hoping that something may improve from it.

Four projectors covering the whole 750 square meter front of a townhall building at night. The amazing images/animations being projected make use of the shape of the building. Really nice!

A group of boys who posed as a 15-year-old girl for an Internet prank ended up helping police arrest a 48-year-old man who tried to meet the fictitious teenager for sex, authorities said.

Not a computer mouse, REAL mice. Seems alittle crazy to pay that much just for a mouse, but If I wanted a mouse, I would just go for a mouse without arthritis, or any of these "extras", thank you very much.

I have no clue who will win, I have Aim, Windows Messenger, and Google talk for some reason, so It doesn't matter for me. I will always seem to have almost all of the instant messenging clients, even skype, which I prefer more than AIM and MSN.

Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1 is set to be released by the end of this week (in 3 - 4 days), after being delayed a month due to development issues!

Well, at least it is comming out in alpha version, but then again, if they have more time in the development phase, it should come out to be more stable and more feature packed, hopeully.

IBM Not To Use Vista - But Will Move to Linux Desktops

Andreas Pleschek also told that IBM has canceled their contract with Microsoft as of October this year. That means that IBM will not use Windows Vista for their desktops. Beginning from July, IBM employees will begin using IBM Workplace on their new, Red Hat-based platform.

If this actually is going to happen to all of IBM, then this is as one line from the article says "a major blow to Microsoft". In my opinon, this is also a major blow to Microsoft, if this happens. Microsoft will probilby try to renegotiate a contract with them again, if they become desparate.

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference: August 7-11 in San Francisco

Apple announced today that the WorldWide Developer's Conference will be taking place between August 7-11 in San Francisco, California. Apple has stated that they will be previewing Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) at WWDC 2006.

Sounds interesting, I wonder if anything will be mentioned about a new intel iBook or a intel PowerMac...One thing that I especially interested in, is when 10.5 is going to be released.

How Capacitive Touch Sensing Works

An interesting article, but it is a long one, and a little complex. I recommend if you some time on your hands to read it, because it explains how touchpads like on most laptops and the iPod work.

XM: 100% Commercial-free music no more!

In addition, commercial advertisements will resume on music programming currently provided to us by Clear Channel.

It seems that only a few channels will have commercials, but in this move by Clear Channel, this may lead to the death XM's main reason of existance to begin with: commercial free radio, with large music vairety. The music variety may be still there but the commercials were, in my opinon, the bigger reason to listen to satilite radio vs. conventual radio.

This Day in Apple History March 6, 1984: Gates Predicts Mac Dominance

“If Macintosh isn’t a success then the market is let to the PC. But we’re super enthusiastic. If Apple can meet its production goals, we expect half of Microsoft’s retail sales to be Macintosh related in 1984.” Bill Gates’s super quote was published this month in Popular Science in 1984.

Interesting that Bill Gates saying this in 1984, then in the 90's, with microsoft, doing the opposite: Windows becomming the main os. Again, this is just interesting, because Bill gates supposivly quoted that we would only need 720 kilobits of ram, and that was wrong also (but the quote is a rumor anyway). Anyway, this is, yet again, interesting because of one thing: Gates admitting that the Apple had the potential then, but in reality the opposite happened.

It seems that the macs are starting to loose the veil of protection that they had when the were a small part of the market share...soon we will see (kicking and screaming) using virus scanners. Eventually could be a few years later, but mabe this issue will not be big for mac users. Again, time will tell if it will evolve into a bigger issue, or not.

Make Windows 3.11 Look Like XP

Calmira XP 4.0 beta gives the Windows 3.x desktop the WinXP look-and-feel. In this new version an XP taskbar has been added, and even experimental support for long file names. Other things Calmira includes is the XP login screen, and more.

Interesting, I dont know If I would really need such a thing. Then again, its an interesting idea to try to make Windows 3.11 look like xp. Its also allittle odd.
