Microsoft Origami: AlphaSmart Killer?

This thing, the Microsoft Origami project, by inital glances in the advertising video that was leaked, seems to, with all the features that it shows, be the ultimate AlphaSmart killer. I use an AlphaSmart for writing stuff at school and all, and looking at Oragami, it just makes what I have look obsolete. Having something with, a color screen, abeit slightly smaller than the dana's might be a disadvantage, but having a color screen, with a touchscreen, running Windows or Linux would beat PalmOS anyday. The features that this seems to initally have, mp3, remote control, docking capability (??), and a external keyboard, make this thing seem more mobile and much more flexable. It's like the QQQ computer that was released last year, but it seems better, with a large screen, more modular, and also more fit for the role of a mobile computer that would be used in day to day. It doesn't seem like a tablet, because of the screen's smaller size, but its like an inbetween, a UltraSmall computer. I've been pondering, ever since the website of this viral marketing campaign, several things. One of which is battery life: will it be able to beat the Dana's approxiamate 6+ hour(a guess, from how I've used it) battery life, and be able to easily type essays and other documents. The thing was shown in some sort of dock, I wonder if this dock has a video output, so it could be used as a pseodu-computer like laptop if it was docked to a bigger screen with a keyboard. I could probibly go rambiling on and on for hours, but these things just seem to go into my head when I read all the details about this, and continue to think, if Microsoft is beginning a new trend in the gadget industry: UltraSmall computers...

4G Wireless: 2.5Gbps: Japanese researches break record

Researchers for Japan's largest mobile operator NTT DoCoMo, have broken a world record for packet-switched data transmission in a mobile network. The researcher's achieved 2.5Gbps packet transmission downstream while moving at 20 kilometers an hour. According to the report, DoCoMo achieved 1Gbps speed in a similar field experiment last year; This time, by increasing the number of MIMO transmission antennas from four to six and by using 64-QAM, they increased data volume per transmission from four bits to six bits.
Sounds intersting, but I wonder when this technogy enhanvements will reach the United State, and even if they will ever make it there; ther just seems to bee this feeling that certain technologies in Japan would not be popular here in the United States. This is not allways the truth. There are many technologies, including 7 MegaPixel Cameras, that would be great to be shipped here.

Google Release Free Website Service

Neowin.net - Where unprofessional journalism looks better - Google Release Free Website Service

Google have launched Google Page Creator, a free website creation tool.

Perhaps best described as Geocities for the 21st century, Page Creator takes the Google AJAX magic and applies it to website design. The process is simple, albeit, at this time, a little buggy.

In a fashion remarkably similar to Powerpoint, users can pick from a number of themes (or change them on the go) and text layouts. It makes use of a rather clever What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor, so users don't have to face the prospect of editing HTML (but the option exists). Best of all, in true ground breaking fashion, Google lets you have 100MB of space for free, and it doesn't even put ads on your homepage.

It's all very easy; of course, that's the idea. Google have identified an area of the web which has garnered little interest in the last few years. "Free" providers traditionally have provided a lack lustre offering designed to try and persuade people to go up to pay-for options. No longer. Google Pages sees the company delve into a natural but new field, and will no doubt be popular.
Looks interesting, even though I know HTML, I'm still interested in this hosting service, becasue of the AJAX that they have built into it :).

Googlebot gets Mozilla glasses. Proclaims "I can see!".

Google no longer sees your website through eyes of an 11 year old text browser (No I'm not talking about IE), but what's to come is still unknown.

Hacking the hacker's identity

Hacking the hacker's identity | News.blog | CNET News.com

Sometimes a photo is worth only a few words--a few very revealing words. That was apparently the case recently when The Washington Post accidentally left clues to the identity of a confidential source in an article about hackers.

Hmm I think this article was in the Washinton Post Magazine, I should read this article...but anyway, its ironic that they would leave even tiny clues on there site and in the article that could lead to finding out who the hacker is, its also poor covering up the persons identity.

OS X flaw exposes Macs

OS X flaw exposes Macs | CNET News.com

update A serious flaw in Mac OS X could be a conduit for attackers to install malicious code on computers running the Apple Computer software, experts warned Tuesday.

The security problem is the third to surface for the operating system in the past week. It exposes Mac users to risks that are more familiar to Windows users: Visiting a malicious Web site using Apple's Safari Web browser could result in a rootkit, a backdoor or other malicious software being installed on the computer without the user noticing anything, experts said.

It looks like Apple is starting to get into the same limelight as Microsoft has been with vulnerablilities, hopefully they will be faster than Microsoft is with patching Windows.
