Apple's 'Unix' Runs Arbitrary Code on Boot

Rogue code and trojans resident on an OS X machine don't have to work overtime to 'get root'. If they're patient they'll have it on next boot with no effort made at all.

There is a proof of concept' available for download


It seems that the macs are starting to loose the veil of protection that they had when the were a small part of the market share...soon we will see (kicking and screaming) using virus scanners. Eventually could be a few years later, but mabe this issue will not be big for mac users. Again, time will tell if it will evolve into a bigger issue, or not.

If you read the comments, you'll find that the article is completely wrong. The author updated the article to say that Apple fixed the issue in Tiger, but even that is inaccurate. The exploit has been confirmed to not exist in both Panther and Jaguar.

Ok...thats intersting, but still from another study that's not on that site. More bugs were found on the Mac platform than the PC :(. So it may be time for mac users to have anti-virus.
